{"id":17425,"date":"2025-01-14T15:29:17","date_gmt":"2025-01-14T13:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.obi.gr\/?p=17425"},"modified":"2025-01-14T15:29:17","modified_gmt":"2025-01-14T13:29:17","slug":"cancellation-of-the-european-trademark-quot-turkaegean-quot-statements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.obi.gr\/en\/cancellation-of-the-european-trademark-quot-turkaegean-quot-statements\/","title":{"rendered":"Cancellation of the European Trademark &#8220;Turkaegean&#8221; &#8211; Statements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Greece Defends Its National Interests Decisively and Effectively in the Commercial Field<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following coordinated efforts by the Ministry of Development and the Greek Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has decided to cancel the European trademark &#8220;Turkaegean&#8221; <b>(C58927, 10\/01\/25).<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It is recalled that in 2021, the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) filed for the registration of the trademark &#8220;Turkaegean&#8221; with the EUIPO. In February 2023, during the ministerial tenure of Adonis Georgiadis, the Greek government filed a cancellation request, with the case being handled by OBI, due to the infringement of Greece\u2019s trademark rights. The result of these actions is today\u2019s decision, which affirms Greece&#8217;s position.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos<\/b>, stated: <em>\u201cGreece, under the leadership of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is strong on the international stage and defends its national interests decisively and effectively in the commercial field. We claim our rights with all our strength and through every legal means. This is how we achieved today\u2019s victory with the cancellation of the \u2018Turkaegean\u2019 European Trademark.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>The President of OBI, Dimitris Chronis<\/b>, remarked: <em>\u201cThe cancellation decision of \u2018Turkaegean\u2019 fully satisfies Greece&#8217;s position and justifies, in the strongest terms, our decision to challenge the trademark.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>The Director General of OBI, Panagiotis Kanellopoulos<\/b>, commented: <em>\u201cIn the \u2018Turkaegean\u2019 case, OBI, along with the legal representatives who represented the country, worked systematically and methodically to bring about today\u2019s positive result in what was a challenging legal battle.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greece Defends Its National Interests Decisively and Effectively in the Commercial Field Following coordinated efforts by the Ministry of Development and the Greek Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has decided to cancel the European trademark &#8220;Turkaegean&#8221; (C58927, 10\/01\/25).
