{"id":18476,"date":"2025-03-20T11:07:26","date_gmt":"2025-03-20T09:07:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.obi.gr\/?p=18476"},"modified":"2025-03-21T11:13:20","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T09:13:20","slug":"a-new-era-for-the-protection-of-authentic-local-and-european-craft-products-in-the-single-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.obi.gr\/en\/a-new-era-for-the-protection-of-authentic-local-and-european-craft-products-in-the-single-market\/","title":{"rendered":"A new era for the protection of authentic local and European craft products in the single market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From December 2025, artisans can apply for a new geographical indication.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>General Secretariat of Industry<\/strong> of the Ministry of Development, in collaboration with the <strong>Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI),<\/strong> has already undertaken a series of initiatives to promote the inclusion of Greek craft and industrial products under the protection of geographical indications, in accordance with <strong>Regulation (EU) 2023\/2411.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the General Secretariat for Industry:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promotes the national legislative framework to simplify the process of integrating Greek products,<\/li>\n<li>Monitors developments at the EU and international level,<\/li>\n<li>Implements informational actions and visits,<\/li>\n<li>Plans events to promote geographically indicated products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our country successfully participated in the International Conference on Geographical Indications, held on <strong>January 28-29, 2025<\/strong>, in Alicante, Spain.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, many producer associations have already been informed by the relevant authorities about the benefits of Regulation (EU) 2023\/2411, have expressed interest, and are collaborating with the competent authorities for the registration process.<\/p>\n<p>As part of these initiatives, <u>producer associations and local stakeholders are called upon to support the effort to include more products under the geographical indication protection regime.<\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Contact Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>General Secretariat of Industry, Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Small-Medium Enterprises: Email: <a href=\"mailto:supportings_smes_gsi@mindev.gov.gr\">supportings_smes_gsi@mindev.gov.gr<\/a>, Tel.: 210 3893927,-916<\/p>\n<p>Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI): \u0395-mail : <a href=\"mailto:info@obi.gr\">info@obi.gr<\/a>, Tel 210 6183552, &#8211;\u00a0 647<\/p>\n<p><strong>General Secretariat of Industry website for Geographical Indications:<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ggb.gr\/el\/geographical_indications_craft_industrial_products\">https:\/\/www.ggb.gr\/el\/geographical_indications_craft_industrial_products<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>More on the EU Regulation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On October 27, 2023, the European Commission (EC) published Regulation 2411\/2023 regarding the protection of Geographical Indications (GI) for craft and industrial products. The new Regulation came into effect on November 16, 2023, <strong>and will be applied from December 1, 2025<\/strong>.
