Event in Thessaloniki on the topic: ‘Developments in Intellectual Property Law, Trademark – Geographical Indications

Today’s seminar, titled Developments in Intellectual Property Law, Trademark – Geographical Indications,” took place in the Philippos Hall of the Alexander Technological Institute Campus in Sindos.

The event was organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), and the Special Account for Research Funds of the International Hellenic University (Department of Technology Transfer & Innovation).

Opening remarks were delivered by Professor Stelios Xanthos, Vice-Rector for Finance, Planning, and Development, Department of Production and Management Engineering at the International Hellenic University; Ms. Theodora Simitsi, Deputy General Director of OBI and Lawyer; and Ms. Antje Söder, representative of the EUIPO.

A presentation on the Trademark as a Right of Intellectual Property was given by Ms. Matina Chrysochoidou, Director of Trademarks at OBI. The process of Trademark Filing, with emphasis on Online Filing, was explained in detail by Mr. Giorgos Kefalogiannis, Head of Online Trademark Filing at OBI.

Ms. Elvira Georgiadou, Trademark Lawyer at OBI, delivered a specialized presentation on Geographical Indications and the New EU Regulation for handcrafted and industrial products.

Dr. Giorgos Asimopoulos, head of the OBI Regional Office in Thessaloniki, spoke about the provision of Technological Information, as well as all the protection rights and services that the Organisation offers to the academic and business communities, as well as to the general public.

The event was moderated by Mr. Dimitrios Palantzian, Head of the Department of Technology Transfer & Innovation at the International Hellenic University.
