The new Mapping Report, prepared by the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation, highlights the technological trends shaping the field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for ISR applications. The analysis of 332 patent families shows that the sector is moving from a platform-centric approach towards integrated ecosystems for the collection, processing and utilisation of information.
In this new environment, data processing capabilities and the use of advanced artificial intelligence algorithms are becoming key competitiveness factors, surpassing the importance of the aerial platform itself. At the same time, critical technological directions are emerging, such as:
- the collaboration of multiple autonomous UAVs,
- navigation without reliance on GPS,
- Counter-UAS technologies.
The Report provides an evidence-based overview of global technological activity, supporting institutions, organisations and research structures in the strategic exploitation of knowledge generated through Patents.
