The Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) participated institutionally in the 1st International Conference “Connect to Protect – Children & Youth at Risk Conference”, an initiative dedicated to strengthening child protection mechanisms and improving prospects for children, adolescents and young people experiencing vulnerable or precarious circumstances.
The Conference brought together representatives of the academic community, researchers, professionals, policymakers and organizations from different sectors, with the aim of adopting a holistic approach to the critical challenges affecting young people today. The focus was on promoting evidence-based dialogue, strengthening good practices and developing prevention policies that respond to the current and constantly evolving risks faced by children worldwide.
OBI was represented by Mr. Loudovikos Van–Heurck, Mechanical Engineer, MSc, Head of Informatics and Telecommunication Department – Principal Patent Examiner, Search Directorate, who delivered a presentation focusing on the topic entitled “Innovation for the Protection of Children & Young People: Insights from Patents on Emerging Safety Technologies.” His presentation focused on exploring the relationship between patent information and emerging technological solutions aimed at protecting children and young people from online “grooming” and cyberbullying.
Evidence-based data from global patent trends were presented in the following areas:
- Detection of online grooming: AI-based inventions for behavioural analysis and early warning systems (Natural Language Processing – NLP)
- Cyberbullying prevention: Sentiment and behavioural analysis, detection of harmful interactions, automated intervention mechanisms
- Age verification technologies: Biometric identification systems
- Online child safety technologies: Image and video analysis
Through its participation, OBI reaffirms its institutional role and commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the safety, protection and empowerment of young people.
