Specifically, according to today’s EPO press release:
- The EPO’s Technology Dashboard 2025 (formerly Patent Index) reports a record year for the European Patent Office.
- Strong growth is observed in digital, AI, quantum, semiconductor and battery technologies.
- The United States and Germany remain the leading countries of origin, as China enters the top three for the first time.
- Samsung, Huawei, and LG lead applicant rankings, with Nokia rising to 5th place.
- Unitary Patent system continues to gain momentum, particularly among small businesses in Europe.
