The United Nations proclaimed April 21 as World Creativity and Innovation Day in order to raise public awareness of the role that creativity and innovation play in every aspect of human development.
Today’s World Day highlights the decisive role that Innovation plays in harnessing countries’ development potential and in shaping a sustainable economic future.
Together with Creativity and Entrepreneurship, they act as drivers of progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, playing key role in income generation, employment growth, and increased exports. At the same time, they provide new opportunities for developing countries to enter high value-added sectors, while also laying strong foundations for the creation of quality jobs and equal access to opportunities for all—especially for women and young people.
