On April 21, 2026, the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), elected Mr. Daren Tang as Director General of WIPO for another six-year term.
During his first term, he demonstrated outstanding leadership amid significant international challenges, contributing to strengthening the intellectual property system and bringing it closer to the needs of businesses and society.
Upon his election, Mr. Daren Tang emphasized the need for intellectual property to become part of citizens’ everyday life, highlighting its role as a driver of growth across all sectors of modern life, from agriculture and trade to culture and the economy.
A delegation from the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), consisting of its Director General, Mr. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, and the Head of the International Affairs Department, Ms. Myrto Lamprou Maurer, participated in the General Assembly.
The importance of developing digital tools and services that strengthen the system for filing international intellectual property applications was underlined by OBI’s Director General, Mr. P. Kanellopoulos, who also encouraged initiatives aimed at removing barriers to the commercial exploitation and financing of intellectual property rights.
OBI welcomes the re-election and will continue to cooperate with WIPO to strengthen the intellectual property ecosystem.
