The informational seminar titled “Modern Approaches to Branding & Trademark Law” was held with great success on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Athens War Museum. The event was co-organized by the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
The event attracted significant interest, with high attendance both in person and online, confirming the importance of the topics discussed and the need for meaningful information on Intellectual Property, trademarks, and brand development strategy.
Opening remarks were delivered by the Director General of OBI, Mr. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos; the Deputy Director General of OBI, Ms. Theodora Simitsi; and Mr. Dimitris Botis, Director of the Operations Support Department at EUIPO.
During the seminar, key issues were highlighted regarding brand creation and development, the legal protection of trademarks, new types of European Union trademarks, as well as recent developments in EUIPO case law and practice.
Particular interest was also shown in the section addressing unregistered rights and distinctive signs, such as trade names, distinctive titles, and domain names, along with the relevant judicial practice.
Distinguished representatives from the fields of Intellectual Property, legal science, and strategic communication participated as speakers, offering valuable knowledge and practical insights.
This initiative constituted a particularly important outreach action, as for the first time trademark law was presented in an accessible way—not only to legal professionals, but also to entrepreneurs, business executives, creators, and professionals from other fields active in branding and the marketplace.
The success of the seminar confirms the need for similar initiatives and reinforces OBI’s commitment to continuing actions that bring intellectual property closer to society and the market.
The event was coordinated by Ms. Matina Chrysochoidou, Director of Trademarks at OBI.
The speakers’ presentations will be made available in the coming days on the official website of the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI).
