The Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) participated in the event “Early-Stage Financing and the Role of Technology Transfer Offices”, held on 11 June 2026 in Athens, with the participation of representatives from the academic community, research organizations, investment schemes, and innovation stakeholders.
As part of the 4th Session, entitled “Strategy for Licensing Technologies through Technology Transfer Offices”, moderated by Ms. Stavria Mathiou from the Technology Transfer, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Department of the Technology Transfer Office of the University of Patras, Ms. Uiouli Papapostolou, Director of Technological Information and Head of OBI’s Innovation Agency, participated in a panel discussion alongside Dr. Athanasios Ragkos, Principal Researcher at ELGO-DIMITRA, Dr. Giannis Dimitrakopoulos, Head of the Technology Transfer Office of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and Dr. Katerina Papadouli, Head of the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Office of the Agricultural University of Athens.
During her intervention, Ms. Papapostolou emphasized that the choice between licensing and the creation of a spin-off company is not merely a legal or academic decision, but a strategic choice for the exploitation of knowledge. Such a decision, she noted, should be based on the maturity of the technology, market needs, the potential for intellectual property protection, and the prospects for commercial exploitation. She also highlighted the importance of patent analytics, technology mapping, and technology foresight exercises as tools of technological intelligence that support informed decision-making and innovation strategies.
OBI contributes to strengthening the link between intellectual property protection and strategic commercialization pathways that maximize the economic and social impact of research.
