Event for World Intellectual Property Day 2026, Athens Olympic Museum

On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day 2026, the Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO) is organizing an event on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 15:00 to 20:30, at the Olympic Museum of Athens (Golden Hall), titled:
“Intellectual Property and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate!”

The event highlights the crucial role of Intellectual Property (IP) in modern sports, with emphasis on the challenges of the digital era, the protection of sports content, and the importance of innovation as a driver of development.

Strengthening the institutional character of the event, the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) will have an active and substantial presence, with its executives participating as speakers, contributing to the public dialogue on developments and perspectives linking Sports with Intellectual Property and its various aspects.

From 18:30 to 19:30, a panel discussion will take place titled “Industrial Property and Innovation in Sports”, moderated by Ms. Katerina Margellou, Deputy Director General and Director of Legal Support (OBI). Participants include Mr. Demetris Stafylas, Head of Search Directorate (OBI), focusing on data regarding “Sports Equipment, Innovation and Intellectual Property in the context of the Olympic Games and the Olympic Spirit.” Mr. Aristidis Pittaras, Director of Applications & Grants (OBI), will present evidence on “Design and Sports,” while Ms. Villy Davila, lawyer (LL.M.), will provide a clear overview of “Trademarks in the Sports Sector: Current Commercial Reality and Case Law.”

The informational event will also include participation from representatives of the State, international organizations, institutional bodies, as well as members of the academic and legal community, shaping a meaningful dialogue on key issues concerning the future of Sports and Intellectual Property.

The event aims to serve as a meeting point for professionals and stakeholders, strengthening cooperation and knowledge exchange.
